Flying drones is popular among tourists who would like to capture (not only) the panoramas of Prague. Often, they don't realize that during filming or photographing with a drone, they move far beyond the boundaries of what is permitted in the Czech Republic.

Operating a drone in the center of Prague

Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, is the most common destination for tourists from all over the world. Its historic center attracts visitors to attempt capturing landmarks from a bird's-eye perspective. However, drone operation in the center of Prague is restricted without further permits.

Flying over Congested areas and people

Flying drones over areas used for residential, commercial, and recreational purposes is subject to rules derived from the weight of the drone. The same applies to flying over people who have not given informed consent.

Restrictions near airports

Near airports, the maximum flight altitude is reduced, and drone operations are governed by stricter rules. It's advisable to verify the drone flight conditions in the DronView app.

The obligation to register as a drone operator

All operators whose drones are equipped with a camera and are not certified as toys are required to register. Registration is valid within the territory of all EU member states, and in the Czech Republic, it is done through the Operator Portal managed by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Operation of drones in Buffer zones

Flying drones is prohibited without special permission in national parks, protected landscape areas, along roads, railways, power lines, water sources, and objects important for state defense.

Foreign tourists intending to fly drones during their visit to the Czech Republic are obligated to inform themselves about the current rules and regulations and act accordingly. Details about the rules for safe drone operation in the Czech Republic can be found on Czech Drone Rules website.
